TUDCA is protective against T1D by mitigating ER stress and restoring defective UPR. Our study is highlighted in National Geographic!
Dr. Engin’s postdoctoral work was featured in the National Geographic blog. Her PI, Dr. Gökhan Hotamisligil, a geneticist at Harvard University, was interviewed about their research on the diabetes protective effect of a bile acid (TUDCA), commonly found in black bear bile, in preclinical models of type 1 diabetes.
Update: TUDCA is currently in Phase II clinical trials for new-onset type 1 diabetes. Click here for more information.
